The DSR uses a round full-color TFT display: a central charge (state-of-charge) ring is encircled by a digital speedometer with a 12-segment analog speed ring and four rider-selectable gauge quadrants (SOC, range, battery/motor/ambient temp, efficiency, RPM, trip). A REGEN/TORQUE bar shows power flow, with ride mode, ABS and traction status, clock, Bluetooth and odometer around it and a row of warning tell-tales along the display.

Zero DSR Overview & Key Specifications at a Glance
The Zero DSR is the middle model in Zero's adventure line-up, sitting between the entry DS and the flagship DSR/X and sharing their platform. Power comes from a Z-Force 75-10X interior-permanent-magnet AC motor that is passively air-cooled, so there is no radiator, no coolant and no cooling fans to service. Drive reaches the rear wheel through a single-speed, clutchless direct-drive transmission and a Gates Carbon Drive Moto X9 belt, meaning no gears to shift, no clutch to slip and no chain to oil. Energy is stored in a Z-Force ZF15.6 lithium-ion 'intelligent' power pack managed by the onboard Cypher III operating system.
The DSR is sold in two power configurations to suit European licence categories. The A2 (restricted) version uses a firmware-limited 670-amp controller and produces 52 kW (70 hp) peak power, 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) peak torque and roughly 33 kW (44 hp) of continuous 30-minute power, with a top speed around 150 km/h (93 mph). The A3 / Full Power version runs a 765-amp controller for 60 kW (80 hp) peak, 195 Nm (144 lb-ft) peak torque and about 36 kW (48 hp) continuous, reaching a sustained 161 km/h (100 mph) and a maximum of 167 km/h (104 mph). Both variants deliver full torque from zero rpm, which is what gives the DSR its characteristic instant, twist-and-go acceleration.
The chassis is built for mixed street-and-trail use: fully adjustable Showa suspension with 190 mm of travel at both ends, a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel wearing Pirelli Scorpion Trail II sport-touring/enduro tyres, and a Bosch braking package with ABS, combined braking and a dedicated off-road mode. A relatively low 828 mm seat and 242 kg curb weight keep it manageable, while a 257 kg carrying capacity covers rider, passenger, luggage and accessories.

Controls, TFT Dashboard, MODE Button & Warning Indicators
Almost every setting on the DSR is reached through the single MODE toggle on the left switchgear, which you operate with four gestures: a quick tap left or right to scroll a menu, a slide (hold about half a second) to enter sub-menus, a longer hold (about one second) to jump back to the riding screen, and a press inward to confirm a selection. The colour dash shows a Riding Screen while the bike is armed to ride (key ON, motor-stop switch to Run, kickstand up) and a Menu Screen for changing preferences, checking the battery, viewing performance data and reading trip and odometer figures. To open the menu, put the motor-stop switch to OFF and/or drop the kickstand, then hold the MODE button for about a second.
Around the central charge gauge are four customisable quadrants that you can fill with any of the available read-outs — state of charge, estimated range, battery temperature, motor temperature, instant or trip efficiency, motor RPM, trip A/B distance, or ambient temperature — or leave blank. A gauge must be cleared from its current quadrant before it can be assigned to another. The digital speedometer is ringed by a 12-segment analogue arc, each segment representing 20 km/h. Battery and motor temperature are shown as colour bars rather than numbers: the battery bar reads blue when cold (-10 to 10°C), white in the normal 10–50°C band, then yellow and red as it heats toward its 75°C limit.
Cruise control lives on the right switchgear and works between 30 km/h (18 mph) and 144 km/h (89 mph). Note there is no incremental up/down adjustment — to change your set speed you cancel the current one and set a new one. The DSR also carries a tip-over sensor that cuts drive and charging if the bike falls; you re-enable it with one full key cycle. Two identical black transponder keys start the bike and lock the storage/seat, while a separate yellow key is used only by the dealer to program new keys.

Ride Modes, Throttle Response & Regenerative Braking
You accelerate by twisting the throttle toward you and slow by rolling it off. When the throttle returns fully closed, the DSR engages regenerative braking, using the motor to slow the bike while feeding energy back into the pack — you will feel a distinct deceleration. If you want to coast freely instead, hold the throttle just off the fully closed position at its 'zero-torque' point, where the motor neither drives nor brakes. That zero-torque point shifts with speed and with the selected ride mode, so it takes a little practice to find it smoothly. Because the DSR has no clutch or gears, all of this happens seamlessly with one hand.
The DSR leaves the factory with five ride modes that change acceleration, top speed and regen strength, each with its own dash accent colour. You can also build CUSTOM modes in the Zero smartphone app — only one custom mode can be loaded at a time, and it replaces the default CANYON mode. Switching modes is instant if the throttle is closed; if the throttle is open when you select a new mode, the change waits until you close it.

ABS, Traction Control, Drag-Torque Control & Parking Mode
The DSR runs a Bosch anti-lock braking system with Base motorcycle stability control (MSC), electronic combined braking (eCBS) that blends front and rear brakes for you, and a dedicated off-road mode. The ABS light lit while stationary is normal — it must extinguish once both wheel-speed sensors read above 5 km/h. If a big front-to-rear wheel-speed difference occurs (a wheelie, burnout or loose gravel) the ABS temporarily disables itself and the light comes on; to restore it, stop completely, cycle the key off, wait about five seconds, and turn it back on. You can switch ABS off in the Performance menu, but the bike then behaves like a non-ABS machine with longer, less predictable stops. Disabling ABS also disables drag-torque control.
Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) cuts motor torque if the rear wheel spins, with four active settings plus off. Drag-Torque Control (DTC) works the other way, managing regen on deceleration so the rear wheel does not slip when you roll off the throttle on a slick surface. Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) holds rear-brake pressure after you release the levers on a stop, so the bike will not roll away; it lets go when you ride off, drop the kickstand, cut the motor-stop switch, or after three minutes.
Parking Mode gives you a slow, throttle-controlled forward and reverse creep for shuffling the bike in tight spots or on inclines — useful given the DSR's weight. It is not a parking brake. You select it from the menu with the motor-stop switch OFF, then arm the bike; it defaults to reverse, and the cruise button toggles between reverse and forward.

Battery, Real-World Range & Charging (Connectors, Times, Do's & Don'ts)
The DSR's ZF15.6 power pack holds 15.6 kWh maximum (13.6 kWh nominal usable) and is sealed and maintenance-free — only trained Zero technicians may open it. Its Battery Management System (BMS) continuously optimises charging and protects the cells with safety interlocks. The onboard charger is rated 3.3 kW as delivered and can be firmware-upgraded to 6.6 kW through a Cypher purchase, roughly halving AC charge time. European bikes use an IEC 62196 Type 2 (Mennekes) inlet; rest-of-world bikes use a Type 1 (J1772) inlet.
