Zero SR/S at a Glance: Specs, Performance & Dimensions
The Zero SR/S is built on Zero's FST street platform and runs the Cypher III operating system. Its Z-Force 75-10 interior-permanent-magnet AC motor is passively air-cooled — there is no radiator, coolant or clutch — and drives the rear wheel through a maintenance-friendly carbon belt. Controls, TFT Dashboard & Indicator Lights Explained
You interact with the SR/S mainly through the left-hand MODE button, a five-way switch you tap, slide, hold or press. Tapping left or right scrolls menus, a press confirms a selection, sliding right opens the traction-control menu and holding left returns you to the riding screen. The right bar controls the throttle; the right switch block houses the motor stop switch, which cuts current to the motor without powering down the whole bike. There is also a horn, hazard flasher, self-cancelling turn signals and — on the SR/S as standard — heated grips with Off/Low/Medium/High levels adjustable on the move.
The colour TFT dash centres on a charge indicator ringed by four customisable quadrant gauges, with a digital speedometer, ride-mode name, traction/ABS mode, clock, odometer and a Regen/Torque meter that shows torque to the rear wheel under acceleration and regen under deceleration. Battery and motor temperatures are shown as colour bars rather than numbers: the motor bar reads white from 20–118°C and red from 118–150°C, while the battery bar runs blue (−10 to 10°C), white (10–50°C), yellow (50–55°C) and red (55–75°C).
Cruise control operates between 30 km/h (18 mph) and 144 km/h (89 mph): reach your speed, long-press the cruise button for 0.5 s to activate, then a quick press sets it. There is no incremental bump — to change speed, cancel (short press or touch a brake) and set again. If purchased, Parking Mode adds a low-speed forward/reverse walk assist for tight spaces, though it is not a parking brake.

Ride Modes, Throttle Response & Regenerative Braking
The SR/S leaves the factory with five ride modes — ECO, STANDARD, SPORT, CANYON and RAIN — plus a CUSTOM slot you shape in the Zero smartphone app. Each mode blends a different level of acceleration, top-speed cap and regenerative braking, and each has its own dash accent colour. To change modes, press the MODE button for about a second from the riding screen, tap left/right to choose, then slide-and-hold left for one second to apply. You can switch on the move, but if the throttle is open the change waits until you close it.
Because the SR/S is direct drive, easing off the throttle engages regenerative braking that both slows the bike and returns energy to the pack — how strongly depends on the mode. SPORT gives the sharpest acceleration and the least regen; ECO and CANYON add the most regen for one-pedal-style deceleration; RAIN deliberately softens power and regen for slippery surfaces. Regen alone will not bring you to a full stop, so the hydraulic brakes are always required for final stopping.
Rider aids layer on top. Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) offers STREET, SPORT, RAIN and OFF settings that are auto-selected with each ride mode but can be changed by sliding the MODE button right. Drag Torque Control (DTC) manages regen drag to keep the rear wheel from slipping under deceleration. Note that disabling ABS also disables DTC, and turning traction control OFF lights the traction warning indicator.

Battery, Range & Charging: Connectors, Times and Do's & Don'ts
The SR/S charges through a single onboard 6.6 kW charger via a Type 2 (Mennekes) socket in Europe or a Type 1 (J1772) socket in North America and the rest of the world. To charge, simply plug in: the dash switches to the charging screen showing state of charge, time remaining, charging amps, estimated range and kilowatts, and the plug icon flashes until charging completes. Crucially, the SR/S charger draws its full rate only from a three-phase supply — plug it into single-phase and it will still charge, just more slowly.
Charging times depend on the supply. In Europe, a domestic Mode 2 cable or single-phase Mode 3 station takes about 4.9 hours to 100% (3.9 hours to 95%), while a three-phase Mode 3 station cuts that to roughly 2.7 hours to 100% (2.0 hours to 95%). In North America, a 110–120 V Level 1 outlet needs about 11.6 hours to 100%, whereas a 208–240 V Level 2 station manages about 2.7 hours. The pack will not accept charge below 0°C (32°F) or above 50°C (122°F), and a pack that is hot from spirited riding may need up to 30 minutes to cool before it charges.
Battery longevity comes down to how you charge. You can cap charging with a Charge Target (30–95% in 5% steps on the dash, or 0–100% and scheduled/off-peak charging via the app). The optional Extended Range Charging upgrade squeezes an extra 10% (shown as '110%') for long trips. Above all, never leave the pack sitting at a very high or a very low state of charge.

Break-In & Your First Rides on the SR/S
An electric motorcycle has no engine to run in, but the SR/S still benefits from a sensible break-in for you, its battery and its brakes. Ride conservatively at first to learn how instant torque, direct drive and regenerative braking feel — energy consumption on an EV is averaged over a much shorter distance than on a petrol bike, so your range will vary noticeably from charge to charge until you settle into a routine.
For the battery, follow a short calibration routine over the first five charge cycles: let the pack run down below 5% and then charge it above 95%. This does not alter battery performance; it simply teaches the Battery Management System to report state of charge accurately. New brake pads and discs should also be bedded in — repeatedly slowing from about 64 km/h (40 mph) to 16 km/h (10 mph) without fully stopping or triggering ABS, roughly 15–20 times per brake, then a cooling ride.
Two early service visits are part of break-in too. The initial 100 mi (160 km) service and the initial 600 mi (1,000 km) service check belt tension, wheel bearings, steering bearings, fasteners and motor commissioning — these first inspections are especially important and should not be skipped.

SR/S Maintenance Schedule, Drive Belt Care & Torque Specs
With no oil, filters, spark plugs or coolant, the SR/S needs far less routine service than a petrol bike, but a defined schedule still applies — and Zero recommends a dealer service every 12 months regardless of distance. Before every ride, check the power pack charge, drive belt tension and condition, brake operation, smooth throttle return, and tyre pressure and condition, plus lights. Where both time and mileage are given, follow whichever comes first.
The carbon Poly Chain belt is low-maintenance but must be kept clean and correctly tensioned; slack causes 'ratcheting' (teeth skipping the sprocket) that can damage the tensile cords, while over-tension increases drag and wear. Measure tension on the lower belt span midway between the sprockets — the Gates Carbon Drive app targets 62–82 Hz, or a tension tester targets 51–102 kg for the 11 mm-pitch belt. Adjust the left and right bolts equally a quarter-turn at a time, then torque the rear axle nut to 102 Nm (75 lb·ft) and re-check after a test ride.
Brake fluid is DOT 4 and must be replaced every 12 months whatever the mileage. Periodically check and, if needed, re-torque key fasteners with fresh threadlocker.
